How to measure a kitchen sink countertop cutout
A drop-in sink needs a hole smaller than the sink. The published cutout has a specified corner radius and is not the nominal size.
- If you are replacing a sink, measure the existing countertop hole at its widest points, front to back and side to side.
- Measure the corner radius of the existing hole. A radiused cutout and a square cutout are not interchangeable.
- Measure the base cabinet width; the cutout and the cabinet are separate requirements.
- Record the countertop thickness - mounting hardware can be limited by it.
- Confirm whether you need a top-mount or an undermount sink. The cutout differs, and these records cover top-mount only.
- Obtain the manufacturer's cutout template for the exact model before any cutting.
